MOUNT RORAIMA

Mount Roraima is the highest point in Guyana on the south part of the State of Bolivar , the largest state in Venezuela , the plateau standing at 2700 m with the peak at 2810 m in Venezuela . Roraima is the tripartite border of Guyana , Venezuela and Brazil , and at the moment can only be approached from the Venezuelan side. Part of the ancient Guiana Shield, which extends into Brazil and Venezuela and was once part of Gondwanaland before tectonic activity moved apart the continents of Africa and South America, Roraima has developed unique flora which huddles for shelter in pockets on the exposed, windswept plateau. Amazing rock formations have been carved by wind and water, and the ground is uneven and rocky with frequent crystal clear pools of excruciatingly cold water (good for the circulation apparently!) There are crystal beds that contain large, individual crystals in interesting shapes, and stunning views from the top over the Gran Sabana of Venezuela , provided the cloud cover lifts. This Islands called tepuis offer a diversity compared to no other rock formations on earth, we want you to be part of that elite group of travelers around the world that have had the honor of experiencing “ the Island in the sky”.

RORAIMA 6 DAYS 5 NIGHTS....

Starting and ending in Santa Elena de Uairen

DAY 1

After a pick up service from Bus Terminal in Santa Elena, we drive to the village for Breakfast and to get our gear ready for our departure to Paraitepuy de Roraima, starting point of the trek. On our way there, we make a stop at one of the most popular places in the Gran Sabana, JASPER CREEK, after enjoying this water fall with incredible geological formations, we continue on the main road and right before San Francisco de Yuruany, we say good bye to the paved road and take a dirt trail for a distance of approximately 26 kilometers of exciting hard land driving on our 4x4 wheel drive to meet our destination, Paraytepuy de Roraima where we eat lunch and start our journey to the lost world.

Our first trek takes around 4 hours trough the Gran Sabana on a sandy trail until we reach RIO TEK the place where we set camp and with the sun setting in the distance we await a hardy meal prepared by our porters and guide, after our dinner, we sit by the fire talking and savoring the star sprinkled nights of the Gran Sabana as we all one by one start drifting into our tents for a well disserved good night sleep.
